Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question you didn’t see addressed somewhere else on this site?  You’ve come to the right place.  Check out our Frequently Asked Questions.  If you still don’t find an answer, email us at info@HealthyGirls.net and we'll help you out.

What ages benefit most from the Healthy Girls program?

1st-8th grade, with some flexibility.  Some kindergarteners are ready while others aren’t.  Likewise, some 9th and even 10th graders would do well in the program.  Typically, with older girls, we’ll offer to make them “helpers” thereby getting them into the class to absorb the material while allowing them their pride of being “older”.

What does the curriculum cover?

Each class includes fun, varied exercise, nutritional education, self-esteem lessons and whatever “theme” may be being used.  The curriculum itself is HUGE and can be used in 6-week increments and themed programs or individualized with each class of the program being different and designed specifically by the licensee herself.  The flexibility and ability to create classes is endless.

How does a licensing program differ from a franchise?

They are quite different, actually.  First, the cost with a license is significantly lower – like A LOT!!  We believe in spreading the good word of Healthy Girls everywhere, to everyone, and empowering women to have their own classes that work with their family’s schedule, etc., not just for those folks who have a lot of money to invest.  Plus, we don’t require a percentage of your class – they do with franchises.  You get a tried and proven program (we’ve been at this for 5+ years now) for a ton less than you’d pay to franchise – and you get to do it on your own terms.  With a franchise, you would fall under a lot of rules and regulations that you must follow to the letter or lose your franchise.  We’re simply here to help, not regulate.

Do you have to travel anywhere for training?

No.  The Healthy Girls Business in a Box comes with fabulous instructions on how to teach the program and a video of an actual class in progress.  The curriculum is self-explanatory and there are helpful hints throughout to guide you in your teaching.  The bottom line is this:  have a very positive, upbeat attitude, believe in the HG mission, follow the curriculum and you’ll be successful.

I don’t have a background in fitness.  Can I still do this?

Absolutely.  You are taken on a step-by-step description of what to do in teaching the classes and the curriculum is very clear and easily taught.  Love for the girls is the most important component to your success, not experiences.  Having a great, upbeat attitude is really the only pre-requisite.  Virtually anyone willing to take the time to prepare for each class will be able to teach the program.

I’m a fitness professional. Will this fit into my existing business?

You bet!!  In fact, it will enhance any existing program and make you more valuable as a fitness instructor or trainer.  The class time for most Healthy Girls classes fits nicely around personal training schedules and group fitness instruction.  It can also act as an excellent adjunct to a women’s fitness facility (i.e., Curves.

Where can I teach the Healthy Girls program?

You can offer the program at schools, fitness facilities, day care centers, churches and just about anywhere there is a population of girls.  You can start your own facility just for girls, although we recommend going on-site to begin with for more opportunities.

How soon can I get started?

Once you’ve received your Business in a Box, review the teacher training video and curriculum.  Make sure you have your CPR certification and you’re ready to go!

How much money can I expect to make with this program?

How much you earn will depend upon your area, what the market will bear there and, most importantly, your level of motivation.  In southern Virginia, classes go for $60 for a once a week, 6-week session per girl.  You may well be able to charge more in your area, but we don’t recommend charging less than $60.

1 – 6-week class 1x per week = $60.00

10 girls = $600.00

If you ran just 4 – six-week sessions (24 out of 52 weeks – talk about part time), 1 time per week, that would be $2400 for 24 hours of work.  You’re averaging $100 per hour!!  Most of our classes have been offered twice a week – or we offer both Healthy Girls and Healthy Tweens classes either once or twice a week.  It can add up pretty quickly.  Supplement your income by adding product sales – DVD kits, tee shirts, bracelets, etc.  Watch for our affiliate program coming soon where you’ll receive commission on any product sold through you.  Sign another licensee up and you’ll receive 10% - that’s $ 125.00 per individual Basic Package and $339.00 for Executive Packages!!!  Don’t forget about our Super Saturdays and camp curriculums.  There are many opportunities for increasing your income.  Your motivation is the biggest determining factor in your success.

How often should I teach the class at each location?

Two times per week is ideal, but if you have more of an audience and your area can support it – GO FOR IT!!

Is this program available in other countries besides the U.S.?

Yes, however, the program is currently only offered in English.

Is there flexibility with the routines or is every activity pre-planned and required?

There is all the flexibility you could want – and the structure if you need that too.  The curriculum is all there – you can choose how to use it.  Choose your fitness routine, a nutrition lesson and a self-esteem lesson – all mix and matchable – and your off.  Need a little more structure?  We’ve put together some pre-planned 6-week themed sessions for you.  Either way, you’re covered.

Will you be offering additional curriculums?

Yes.  In fact, we plan to introduce a pre-school curriculum shortly.  Have a suggestion?  Something you want to see?  Send it in to us at info@HealthyGirls.net

Why is the price different for public schools vs. private individuals?

We offer substantially lower prices to the public school system and other non-profit entities because they won’t be earning money on the program.  Funding is a major issue with implementing schools site physical education programs.  We don’t want money to be the reason why girls can’t benefit from the DBA Network/Healthy Girls program.

What about renewal.  Does it cost the same yearly?

Basic and Executive Packages renew at $150 per year.  Any new instructors are still required to purchase their own individual licenses at $75 each.

For non-profits and public schools, the price of renewal is $250 for an individual school or non-profit, $450 for up to 5 schools, $650 for 6-9 schools, $850 for 10-15 schools and $1250 for up to 50 schools.

If I don’t want to continue with the licensing past the first year, can I continue to teach the curriculum?

No.  If you choose not to renew, you must cease and desist all use of the DBA Network/Healthy Girls curriculum and teachings or anything similar.  The DBA Network/Healthy Girls Business in a Box is copyrighted and may not be used in whole or in part with express written permission from Beck, Glace & Young, LLC.

Are there any other fees and/or royalties?

Nope!  Remember, we’re not a franchise.  You’d be continuing to pay if we were.  The fee you pay to purchase the Business in a Box is all you owe us for the entire year.

What type of equipment is needed?

Required: Equipment

1. Exercise balls - you can purchase these from us at a discounted price ($8.99 for 10 or more or $10.99) and sell to your clients.  Or you can purchase at Wal-Mart anywhere from $15-$25.

2. CD player, I-Pod or some other forum to play music.  Music motivates and inspires.  J

Highly suggested:

1. Therabands- you can order online at PowerSystems.com.   About $50 for about 50 yards.  You can purchase smaller amounts for less money.  Theraband will last you for years.

2. Yoga mats- you can purchase these at Wal-Mart for about $9.88.

Also consider:

1. Weights- you can purchase these at Wal-Mart relatively inexpensively.

2. Individual Trampolines - you only need a few of these, the girls can take turns.  This is a great cardio workout and you can incorporate in different stations or obstacle courses you create for the class.

3. Jumpropes.

4. Weighted balls or medicine balls.  Not weighing more than 5 pounds.  Once again, you can purchase these items at Wal-Mart, it has been the least expensive resource.

*There are also some items that are very inexpensive, a great workout and the girls love doing these activities.  Skip its, Twister Moves, parachute, kickball’s, and hula hoops.  If money is an issue at the beginning, these items may be purchased over time.

Do you sell equipment?

No.  However, we do have affiliates that we work with who are listed on our links page.  These companies offer solid equipment at a good price – and they’ll ship directly to you.

I don’t know anything about marketing and promotion.  How could I possibly market this program?

No worries.  Included in each package is a very extensive business, marketing and promotion section.  Not only are there great suggestions (all of which we’ve used) but we’ve even included templates for flyers and press releases.  We show you how we’ve done it and what companies we use for signage, business cards, etc.  We’re here to help.  You’re never alone!  And remember, there’s always the Licensee Forum available 24/7.  Talk to other licensees and get ideas on what’s working for them.

What kind of support can I expect?

You’re never alone in this endeavor.  We are just an email (info@HealthyGirls.net) away.  We believe in working together to achieve a greater goal.  Helping you succeed helps us succeed.  Once you purchase your license, you’ll have privileged access to the online support group for DBA Network licensees.  Ask questions, read posts, network, and receive other valuable program tools 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
